OUR VISION: To be an excellent organisation providing local probation services to the highest possible standard. In Derbyshire we work extensively as a local level to achieve these objectives. To do so we adopt a rigorous approach to offender supervision, and work in partnership with both statutory and voluntary sector bodies in order to enable informed decisions and improved communications, and to achieve real results. We are performance led, working to the European Excellence Model. Some statistics: In 2008/9 in Derbyshire we supervised 4050 offenders. These included some 154 undertaking drug treatment requirements each month, and 123 each month on requirements for Alcohol treatment. Over the year we supervised 1173 offenders on Unpaid Work requirement, and organised and supervised over 182,000 hours of Unpaid Work under the Government's Community Payback scheme worth over £1 million to local communities. We provided over 4900 reports to the courts to inform sentencing options within the community. As part of our commitment to offender education, training and employment needs, 244 Skills for Life Awards were gained by offenders in the year. We welcome this harmonisation of our approach to equality and human rights. This Single Equality Scheme is action oriented and is designed to help the Board and the senior management team to focus on outcomes that will benefit the community which we serve. Or to visit the East Midlands Community Payback website Click Here Judge For Yourself: Rehabilitation -v- PunishmentJudge For Yourself is an innovative on-line programme in which members of the public can decide what they think is the most suitable sentence for virtual offenders. A recent poll showed that 82% of the public thought rehabilitation was as important, or more important, than punishment when sentencing offenders, and that to cut re-offending is equally as important as punishment. Judge for Yourself allows people to go on-line and experience the work of probation first hand. Based on examples of real cases, people can ask for more information on each offender, get advice from the probation officer involved and select the sentence they think is appropriate. If this is a community sentence, you can choose from the 12 requirements available to create a package for the offenders to rehabilitate as well as punish. Judge for Yourself can be accessed online from the DirectGov website by clicking this link: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Nl1/Newsroom/DG_170371 Customer Service Excellence accreditation achieved On 16 April, Derbyshire was confirmed as achieving the Cabinet Office's standard for Customer Service Excellence following an independant assessment by the East Midlands Quality Centre on behalf of the Cabinet Office. The confirmation letter explains: " The Standard is a very challenging one to meet and is increasingly seen as a measure of a quality service. The achievement ... is also an acknowledgement of the effort of everyone who works for the organisation." The accreditation runs for three years and replaces our Chartermark accreditation which we held since 2000. Leaflets on our standards and how to comment, compliment or complain can be found on the Information page of this website. |
