Prison sentences are not always the best choice for punishment and rehabilitation. In many cases, a community sentence can provide better results.
Derbyshire Probation Trust strives to provide a consistent end to end offender management process, ensuring wherever possible that an offender has the same manager for the entirety of their sentence. This has been shown to help the offender rehabilitate, which itself supports public protection.
Offender Management involves assessing offenders and their risk, planning the supervision (both in the community and in custody), and ensuring that suitable and appropriate interventions are received by the offender.
Judge for Yourself
Judge for Yourself is an on-line, interactive programme that allows you to experience the work of the probation service. It lets you look at real cases and decide what the sentence should be.
You can:
- Ask for more information about the offender
- Get advice from a Probation Officer
- Select a sentence
If you decide on a community sentence, you can chose from 12 Requirements. These are options to allow you to tailor the sentence to fit the punishment and rehabilitation needs of the offender.
At the end, you will find out what sentence was actually given to that offender. You will also hear from both the offender and the probation officer about how successful the sentence was.
